The art of communication is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children—one that will empower them for the rest of their lives. True communication involves many aspects: knowledge, attentive listening, critical thinking, forming sound conclusions, and the ability to express those ideas graciously and eloquently, whether in spoken or written form.

Whilst we might think speaking and writing are poles apart, they are deeply connected. Writing is simply an outlet for our thoughts; how we think shapes the way we write. The way we organise our thoughts determines how we express them—and everyone has something worth saying.

This presentation will touch on my experience as a professional teacher and a home educator.

How we can help empower our children to become confident in expressing their thoughts, particularly focusing on their ability to write. Learning is so much more than just establishing skill sets – it is about inspiring our children, and holding their hand, then letting go and encouraging them to overcome hurdles and skip ahead where they feel confident.

Along the way, we have the privilege of championing them on, but with the right guidance and input, we can be an active part of their growth and success.  As parents and educators, we hold the keys that can unlock the doors holding children back, helping them step forward into a brighter future.

Susanne
Susanne’s unique outlook on teaching evolved beyond the classroom through two decades of homeschooling her own children, navigating giftedness, dyslexia and a wide variety of learning styles. She values the unique situation of home educating parents and has a heart to  partner with them. As a published author, Susanne is passionate about empowering children to develop their own writer’s voice, while writing with confidence and flair. With over 35 years of experience in the education sector, both in Australia and abroad, Susanne has guided a vast number of students from the early years to university readiness. During this time she developed a deep understanding of diverse educational approaches. This firsthand experience shaped her passion for creating an inclusive and effective writing curriculum specifically designed to teach vital concepts in bite-size steps while meeting the varied needs of learners, those who profit from extra support and those that are yearning to fly. Her curriculum is thoughtfully developed to foster a love for writing. The carefully developed syllabus goes way beyond structure and style. It encourages students to ask questions, form opinions and express those clearly, considerately and eloquently. Every child deserves to be inspired Every child contains the seed of success Every child carries a voice that can change the world
