The art of communication is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children—one that will empower them for the rest of their lives. True communication involves many aspects: knowledge, attentive listening, critical thinking, forming sound conclusions, and the ability to express those ideas graciously and eloquently, whether in spoken or written form.
Whilst we might think speaking and writing are poles apart, they are deeply connected. Writing is simply an outlet for our thoughts; how we think shapes the way we write. The way we organise our thoughts determines how we express them—and everyone has something worth saying.
This presentation will touch on my experience as a professional teacher and a home educator.
How we can help empower our children to become confident in expressing their thoughts, particularly focusing on their ability to write. Learning is so much more than just establishing skill sets – it is about inspiring our children, and holding their hand, then letting go and encouraging them to overcome hurdles and skip ahead where they feel confident.
Along the way, we have the privilege of championing them on, but with the right guidance and input, we can be an active part of their growth and success. As parents and educators, we hold the keys that can unlock the doors holding children back, helping them step forward into a brighter future.
