ABOUT
In this 3 hour drop-off science workshop, children will dive in to the world of physics through hands-on, fun and engaging activities – the way science should be! Children will put their problem-solving skills to the test and get their brains busy with STEM based challenges that require them to build, design, create and collaborate on projects such as popsicle catapults, electrical circuits and more.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Children aged 11-14 years old (maximum of 10 children per group). Whilst the program focusses heavily on science-by-doing (experiments), worksheets will be provided to record results and help dive deeper in to the science behind the activities we do. Therefore, this may not be suitable for children with additional learning needs as they may find the workshop too challenging. Please reach out for any questions regarding this.
WHEN & WHERE
Wednesday September 3rd, 9.30am – 12.30pm.
The workshop will be held at a private residence in Currumbin Waters (exact address provided upon registration). Full kitchen and bathroom facilities are available and children will be given time for a break in the middle of the workshop.
COST
$55/child which includes all materials and the workshop will be run by a qualified science teacher. A sibling discount of 10% applies to the second child’s fee.
Please note: A minimum of 7 children is required for the workshop to go ahead. Refunds and make-up sessions are unavailable, however, you can organise to transfer your child’s place to someone else. Please reach out for any questions regarding this.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Please discuss any medical conditions and special needs prior to booking to ensure the program will be a positive experience for your child.
Some experiments will use dangerous equipment such as glassware, scissors, glue guns and other household tools. All experiments are age appropriate and whilst they do contain some risks, precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of your child (goggles, gloves, careful supervision etc.). Please consider if your child will be able to participate safely in these activities.
Caldera Science Club has full public liability insurance and adheres to strict child safety protocols. As such, parents/carers and non-registered children are unable to stay for the session – please reach out if you have special considerations before booking.
ABOUT
Caldera Science Club was created by Casey, a Science teacher of 8 years specialising in Biology, Chemistry, Marine Studies and Earth Science… with a little bit of permaculture on the side. He loves seeing a passion for Science ignited in children and believes that the best way to achieve this is through engaging, hands on activities that allow them to connect deeply with the natural world through a better understanding of it. Whilst he has worked primarily in a public school setting, Casey has always felt more aligned with alternate education models such as Steiner, Montessori and home/unschooling and is excited to homeschool his own children in the future.
